Preparing for outpatient surgery

Clear, practical information for patients and families planning a procedure at Tri Valley Surgery Center in Dublin.

Your surgeon’s instructions come first.Your personal care plan may differ. Direct all medical questions to your surgeon or surgical care team.

Before your procedure

  • Review prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, supplements, and other substances with your surgeon, nurse, or anesthesiologist.
  • Do not stop or change a medication unless your surgeon instructs you to.
  • Follow the eating and drinking instructions provided by your surgeon or anesthesiologist.
  • Fill any prescriptions provided during your pre-surgery visit before the day of surgery.

On surgery day

  • Follow your medication instructions; if told to take a medicine, use only a small sip of water.
  • Plan to arrive at your scheduled arrival time.
  • At check-in, you will complete registration, meet your care team, and review required consents.
  • After surgery, you will receive discharge instructions before leaving the center.

What should I do if I feel sick before surgery?

If you develop a cold, cough, fever, asthma symptoms, or stomach flu, contact your surgeon’s office right away.

What should I bring on surgery day?

Bring your insurance card if needed to update your records, wear comfortable clothing, and leave jewelry and valuables at home.

Will I need a ride home after outpatient surgery?

Arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you after your procedure when required by your care team.
